Ruyi and Lyn has been operating for a decade now and they have more to offer than just their well-designed restaurant interiors. They are also pork free. In Chinese dialect, Ruyi means “everything you wish for” which symbolizes the universal desire for a good life. They aim to bring their customers the most innovative Chinese cuisine while preserving culinary traditions and legacies. Lyn, on the other hand, is an acronym for Link Your Network that reminds us to cherish our friendship and at the same time create new ones with the company of quality food.
I and my friend Riz visited their branch at Bangsar Shopping Center and they are located on the 4th floor of the shopping complex. It was very straight forward in finding them. Just go up using the escalators and you’ll see their sign on the top floor.
There was a huge screen projected playing some music videos that can be heard throughout the restaurant. This place is huge and is suitable for hosting wedding dinners and other large group gatherings.
Here are the foods we ate at Ruyi & Lyn.
Ruyi’s Sushi (RM38)
Six pieces of sushi with different combinations:
Hainan Chicken Rice, Nasi lemak and mango sticky rice.
I have not seen sushis as creatively diverse as this. The sticky rice is quite refreshing while the nasi lemak brings out a true nasi lemak taste on sushi.
Sea Caviar (RM38)
Seagrapes salad tossed in yuzu soy dressing and salmon roe, topped with a sawagani mini baby crab
The sea caviar is a bit salty in taste as the name and ingredients suggest. It has a bit of spiciness in it which makes the taste so different. I had several of this for sure. It feels a bit heavier in the stomach compared to the sushi, to be honest.
This is definitely an appetizer you must try.
Tofu Flower (RM38)
Blossoming clear abalone and scallop soup with saffron
Served with the soup separated, then poured in front of you. This is my first time tasting this soup and I liked it. I love the texture of the abalone and scallop which I think what makes this soup a standout.
Another must try!
Bruce Lee (RM 38)
Licor 43, maraschino liqueur, jackfruit puree, basil, syrup and lime
A special and newly created cocktail fresh from their bar was named after the famous Bruce Lee with his quote written on a card
The Prince and The Pauper (RM48)
award winning pan-seared foie gras on caramelized water melon
This one definitely is a standout. Well presented and really tastes good. The caramelized watermelon helps to compliment the taste of foie gras and overall is a champion. If you ever go to Yuri and Lyn, make sure to get this one.
gin, martini blanco, bird’s nest, cardamon infused earl grey, lemon, egg white, sour aloe foam, chives cracker, caviar, ebiko, gold leaf
Riz had this and it looked like she really like this cocktail. All I can say is genius. The mixing of these ingredients that make up this cocktail is something you won’t get elsewhere. This is the whole idea of modern fusion and I am loving it so far.
Flames of Glory (RM48)
Beef Brisket braised in a flaming pineaple
The beef brisket was full of flavor i love how they light the pineapple with fire before they open it. This serving alone could be good for 2-3 people.
Paired with the Crab Curry Fried Rice (RM28 for small and RM63 for large) the fusion flavour kicked in and I was in full awe upon munching the rice. I did not expect that it would be that tasteful. Another must try that I definitely recommend.
The Sexy Salty Embrace and the Chocolate Embrace are two cakes with different fillings inside. The former being salty egg and chocolate and the latter which is chocolate. Each of them brings out the best in their own way. The Sexy Salty Embrace is something I really liked after trying out the two. I am a fan of salted egg flavor thus the reason why I liked it so much.
These two will need to be served hot and fresh because if not, the lava consistency of the filling will not be perfectly flow as it should be. But don’t worry, their waiters know these things and will be serving this to you at the right moment when you order them.
To sum it all up, Ruyi and Lyn is in a whole different league in terms of creativity and innovation. Aside from that, the food is really really good that I easily recommend this to my friends and anyone who wants to be dazzled with modern Chinese fusion cuisine. That’s not all, I also highly recommend them for wedding dinner receptions, birthday party or even corporate gathering. You will surely impress your guests with their wide range of food that is not easily found on any restaurants out there.
This is it for now, until the next food exploration. Let me know your thoughts.
